Poole-Wau Partnership

Welcome to the Poole-Wau Partnership website

The basis of our Partnership
The Poole-Wau Partnership is a registered charity which has linked the Anglican Churches of Poole & North Bournemouth Deanery with the Diocese of Wau, South Sudan since 2011. Our partnership is based on the Christian principles of discipleship, fellowship, sharing and prayer, as set out in Acts 2:42-47.
"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer".

What we do
Since 2015, on the recommendation of Archbishop Moses & others, our main focus has been on St John's College in Wau. We are committed to sending £18,000 per year to support staff salaries and other running costs of the college. We have a strong relationship with Principal Philip Abiel and his staff, along with the related organisations of Wau Diocese, CARD and RDC. With each of these organisations we share news, respond to requests for prayer, and consider requests for financial support. We maintain ongoing contact with individuals. We share news of each other’s wellbeing: responding to requests for prayer and we consider requests for financial support.
When possible, we visit each other: the last such visit was in February 2025, when six Trustees and committee members from Poole spent a week in Wau. More details may be found at
https://www.poolewaupartnership.com/wau-visit.html
In situations needing humanitarian aid, we help where we can. We have spread awareness, launched appeals and forwarded donations to help.
Prayer has always been an important part of the life of the Poole-Wau Partnership and we hold monthly Prayer Meetings; see  https://www.poolewaupartnership.com/events.html for details of these and other events.
We also keep our supporters informed by means of an emailed bi-monthly Newsletter. If you would like to be put on the emailing list to receive the Prayer Letter and the Newsletter regularly, please use this link and fill in the contact form at the bottom of the page: https://www.poolewaupartnership.com/newsletter.html
We depend principally on support from the 21 Anglican churches of Poole & North Bournemouth Deanery, as well as one-off and regular giving from our supporters. We also carry out a limited number of fundraising events, including the annual 7-mile ‘Holes Bay Walk’, and on a few occasions have launched appeals to raise money for particular projects in Wau, the latest of which is the new building at St John's College which was completed in early 2025: https://www.poolewaupartnership.com/appeal.html.

I’m impressed with all that you do, your continuing commitment to St John’s College, and your enthusiasm for the Diocese of Wau and the internal province of Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
Revd Canon Ian Woodward, Chair of the Salisbury-Sudans Link, June 2023.
The Deanery Synod recognises the valuable work done by our Deanery link with South Sudan, the Poole-Wau Partnership, over the past ten years, reaffirms its support for the Partnership and encourages parishes to engage with its work in the coming years.
Resolution of Poole & North Bournemouth Deanery Synod, unanimously passed, October 2021
