2022 St John’s College
Extension Appeal

Foundations of the new building under construction, July 2021

Thanks to the vision of Archbishop Moses, St John’s College in the Cathedral compound in Wau was founded in 2011 with a mission to transform society. Under the leadership of college Principals, first Joseph Mamer and now Philip Abiel, the college has expanded enormously from 3 students when it opened to over 400 students now, studying Business Studies and Education, as well as Theology.
Despite the huge difficulties which South Sudan faces, the churches remain a beacon of hope for the future, and St John's College is at the heart of the mission of the ECSS Church in Wau Diocese. PWP has been supporting the college since 2015 and our continuing support helps pay the salaries of Theology teachers.

In July 2021, the Governing Council of the college, using its own resources, constructed the foundations for a new building, with four lecture halls and two offices. It is the key to further expansion of student numbers, will enable teaching to become more effective and potentially allow the college to offer a wider variety of courses. Archbishop Moses has decided that the new building is to be named The Poole-Wau Partnership Building in recognition of PWP’s role in the college’s development.
In January 2022 we launched our 2022 Appeal to finance the next stage in construction, building the walls. Within two months of the appeal's launch, the initial target of £8,000 to build the walls was reached, which is a marvellous achievement. This amount has been sent to Archbishop Moses, so work on building the walls can start. Our grateful thanks go to all who donated to the appeal to make this possible.
But PWP Chair, Jeff Neagle, warns, “While Moses should now have enough to build the walls, these are no good without getting the roof on pretty quickly.” It is therefore essential that we continue raising money towards the £18,000 cost of the roof and ceilings. This is a huge challenge, but vital to complete the structure of the new building, which will provide four lecture rooms and two offices.
Please consider this prayerfully and give generously to enable the next stage in the development of St John’s College Wau to go ahead. We would also be grateful if you could spread the word to others - at the foot of this page, you can download the one-page 2022 Appeal leaflet, which is ideal for posting on church noticeboards or handing out to friends.
